Circuit of The Americas is a 3.426-mile, 20-turn road course near Austin, Texas, which opened in 2012 and seats up to 120,000. It was designed by Tavo Hellmund and Kevin Schwantz with Hermann Tilke. COTA has hosted the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix since 2012 and has held NASCAR races since 2021.
Promoter Tavo Hellmund announced plans for Circuit of The Americas in 2010, with Texas billionaire Red McCombs as the largest investor. Designed with Hermann Tilke and former motorcycle champion Kevin Schwantz, it was the first track in the United States built specifically for Formula One. The 3.4-mile circuit in southeast Austin opened in 2012 with the United States Grand Prix. COTA also hosts MotoGP, NASCAR and endurance sports car races, and its grounds include a 251-foot observation tower and an outdoor amphitheater.
