Kansas Speedway is a 1.5-mile asphalt tri-oval in Kansas City, Kansas, owned by NASCAR and opened in 2001. It hosts two NASCAR weekends each year, with races for the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and ARCA Menards Series, including the fall Cup playoff race, the Hollywood Casino 400. IndyCar and IMSA also raced here in the track's early years. The speedway sits next to Hollywood Casino, a joint venture with the track that opened in 2012.
Kansas Speedway was part of the 1990s boom in new NASCAR tracks. The International Speedway Corporation announced plans for a Kansas City-area track in 1997 and chose a site in Wyandotte County, Kansas. Lawsuits from nearby homeowners delayed construction, and the 1.5-mile tri-oval opened in June 2001. The track has hosted NASCAR, IndyCar and IMSA sports cars, and an infield road course can be combined with the oval as a "roval." The Hollywood Casino, a joint venture with the track, opened next door in 2012.
