Pocono Raceway is a 2.5-mile triangular asphalt oval in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, featuring three uniquely shaped turns modeled after different legendary circuits: the Tunnel Turn, the Pocono Turn, and the North Turn. Each corner has different banking and radius, requiring distinct car setups and making Pocono one of the most technically demanding ovals in motorsport. The facility hosts NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series events and has been part of the NASCAR schedule since 1974.
After more than a decade of planning and delays, Pocono Raceway opened in 1969 in the Pocono Mountains under David Montgomery. He soon left after disagreeing with investor Joseph Mattioli, who took control, and the 2.5-mile main track opened in 1971. Its design is unique in NASCAR: three turns, each modeled on another track. Former Indianapolis 500 winner Rodger Ward based the first turn on Trenton Speedway and the second on Indianapolis. After a rough financial decade in the 1970s, the track's NASCAR races brought it back in the mid-1980s. It is owned by Mattco, Inc.
