New Hampshire Motor Speedway is a 1.058-mile oval in Loudon, nicknamed "The Magic Mile," which opened in 1990 and seats about 44,000. Its flat, tight turns reward patient driving and late-race passing. The track hosts the NASCAR Cup Series, the Craftsman Truck Series and the Whelen Modified Tour.
Racing on the site began in 1961 with a quarter-mile dirt oval run by Keith Bryar. He added a road course in 1965, and Bryar Motorsports Park became known for motorcycle racing, including the Loudon Classic. Maine businessman Bob Bahre bought the property in 1989 and rebuilt it as a 1.058-mile oval, which opened in 1990 as New Hampshire International Speedway. NASCAR and CART soon arrived, and the grandstands grew through the 1990s. After Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin Jr. were killed in crashes there two months apart in 2000, the track added major safety improvements. Speedway Motorsports bought it in 2007.
