Les Griebling and a group of Mansfield-area businessmen opened Mid-Ohio in 1962 as a place for weekend sports car racing. It hosted Can-Am and Formula 5000 through the 1970s and its first CART race in 1980. Red Roof Inns founder and road racer Jim Trueman bought the track in 1982 and added permanent grandstands, garages and a media center. His family ran it after his death in 1986, and Green Savoree Racing Promotions bought it in 2011. The rolling, technical course hosts IndyCar, IMSA and motorcycle racing.
