WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is a 2.238-mile, 11-turn road course near Monterey and Salinas, California, opened in 1957. Its signature Corkscrew drops 59 feet through a blind crest, part of 180 feet of elevation change around the lap. The track hosts the IndyCar Series, IMSA, MotoAmerica and the Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
Laguna Seca was built in 1957 for $1.5 million raised from local businesses and residents, after the Pebble Beach Road Races were judged too dangerous. It sits on land that was part of the Army's Fort Ord, and in 1974 the property was deeded to the Monterey County Parks Department. The name means "dry lake" in Spanish, and the course winds around the old lake bed. The 2.238-mile circuit climbs and falls 180 feet, and its signature corner is the Corkscrew, a blind, plunging drop at Turns 8 and 8A.
